Our name

The name King Size was chosen for the group back in January 2007 when we were planning for our first big show. Nat King Pole used the phrase I’m talking King Size in his number I Like to Pack. One of our members thought it would be a cool name for that show. Others thought it would be a great name for the group - our eyes lit up like a bunch of excited kids on a school trip. It was pretty much unanimous because it meant everything and nothing. It was understandable to both our francophone and anglophone fans (an important criteria for a name in Montreal). It left room for the diversity of personas and acts that we wanted to do. We loved it.

A few weeks later, it came to our attention that there had previously been a drag king troupe called Kingsize (note different spelling) in Toronto. A google search indicated that there were inactive so we thought we were fine. Alas, a Toronto Kingsize member claims that the group is still active in spite of their site being down with the phrase Kingsize is closed and no internet evidence of any performances in the past couple of years.

Since they existed before us, it seemed the chivalrous thing to do was to change our name. So … drum roll please .. .we are now known as Dukes of Drag! A name which suits us quite well.
